Tonia Boze Founder and coach at Terrain Gym in Bellingham
  • Founder and coach at Terrain Gym in Bellingham

My journey in the fitness industry began in 1995. Over the years I’ve acquired numerous certifications, and been to many seminars that are coaching, nutrition and leadership focused; from Greg Everett to Jocko Willink. One of the most influential was in 2009, when I attended and passed Mountain Athlete’s (now Mountain Tactical) first certification course. This led me to decades of annual visits to their facility in Jackson Hole, WY. My dad has been the biggest influence in my life. As a Marine, his good morning was a “Reveille” call with instructions to lace up my running shoes. He encouraged physical challenges, but more than that, it was his example and emphasis to make yourself better and help others do the same that was one of the primary reasons I got into the field of coaching.

  • Coach

I am a wife and mother of three with a lifelong love and holistic approach to health and fitness. I find joy and satisfaction in helping others prioritize their health by getting stronger and healthier through establishing consistency, working through limitations, and making continual improvements. If I’m not in the gym, you can find me baking, hosting, or reading a good book. And, if you can’t find me it’s because I’m miles deep in the mountains.

  • Coach

My love for fitness began early when my dad introduced me to running at age 10. In the decades following, my love for running morphed into a passion for pilates, yoga, cycling, weight training, trail running, skiing, and mountaineering. Since moving to Washington I’ve had the privilege of summiting Rainier (hoping to ski the Fuhrer Finger this Spring!), Shuksan, and Baker twice (once on skis and once by foot).

I hold a BA in English Writing from Wheaton College and an MA in Teaching English from Columbia University. When I’m not training or coaching at Terrain you can find me coordinating all things logistics for Needed, eating a croissant (I’m always trying to find the best in whatever city I find myself in!), cooking a good meal for friends, reading a book, writing, skiing at Baker or in the backcountry with my husband, or summiting a local mountain.

  • Alyson Carlyon is an Elite Obstacle Course Racer and an ambassador for Terrain Gym in Bham WA

Alyson has always had a passion for life and loves pushing her limits, so it’s no surprise she took to Obstacle Course Racing (OCR).  Growing up, she ran the 100-meter hurdles in high school and was a competitive gymnast for 13 years before becoming a nationally ranked, All-American diver in college (LSU). She returned to running in 2013, competing in her first ½ and full marathon; qualifying for Boston in her first attempt at the distance. In 2018, Alyson tried her hand in obstacle course racing, which incorporates her skillset and background tremendously. She immediately fell in love with the sport and moved up quickly into the Elite division. In her first full season racing Spartan races as an Elite, she landed 5 top 10 finishes, 2 podiums (top 3) and finished 32nd at the World Championships.
